Focus on Faculty

Professor Geraldine BeckerOn April 23, 2014 Blake Library hosted the fourth Focus on Faculty presentation given by Geraldine Cannon Becker. The presentation took place in Nadeau Hall from 9 to 10am.

Professor Cannon Becker's presentation, "A Transformative Experience: Self Reflections, Collaborative Inquiry, and Arts-Based Research," focused on what she hoped to do in her community in terms of garden projects and her work with two different groups, the Transformative Language Arts Network and WE LEARN (Women Expanding Literacy Education Action Resource Network).

At the recent WE LEARN conference, which Professor Cannon Becker co-chaired and which took place in early March, Professor Cannon Becker did a presentation on "Cultivating Imaginary Gardens: Transformative Reflections on Images." The presentation "...used short stories, poems, and images as a springboard for active imagination as we talk[ed] about gardens and generate[d] ideas, pin-pointing just what would be in the gardens of our dreams." (Excerpt from conference description). Professor Cannon Becker gave a second presentation on "Cultivating Self-Defense & Transforming A Life: A Call to Spirit," in which she "...review[ed] some basic strategies for self-defense and present[ed] some examples of those strategies in action in common situations." (Excerpt from conference description).
