  • Borrowing privileges vary according to patron status and material type.
  • Students, faculty, staff, and special (retired faculty/staff) may check out up to 50 items at a time.
  • Ten (10) media items may be checked out at a time.
  • The Library reserves the right to recall any materials as needed. All recalled items must be returned as soon as possible.
  • You can access your account information in LibrarySearch to view requested items, billing information, and more. You do so by signing with your @maine email username and password.
  • Lost or damaged items incur a $35 fine, $5 processing fee, and $5 billing fee. We will work with you to find a solution.
  • If nonpayment occurs for billed items, staff may place a hold on your UMFK student account; such holds may delay UMFK services (e.g., registration).
  • Some materials have different loan periods. Please be aware of due dates.

Please see the Collection information below for more information about the collection, item types, and loan periods.

Online Requests Through LibrarySearch

  • It is preferable to sign into your account before you begin, but you can sign into your account at any time throughout the search process. Your sign-in will be your university email username and password.
  • Once you find the book you want in LibrarySearch, click the “Request” button. If you haven’t signed in yet, you will need to before you can see the Request option.
  • Follow the directions provided, making sure to choose the UMFK option for pickup location. You don’t need to fill out the rest of the form unless you want to.
  • Once the item arrives, you will receive an email. You can also check your library account online.
  • If you get an error or other issue, please contact library staff (see Staff contacts)

Note: as you search for books, if you want to save any titles for future or any you are requesting, you can click the Pin icon located on each of the item records. There is no longer an automated reading list.

Course Reserves

Go directly to course reserves or read more about what and how below.

The Course Reserve Shelf at Blake Library is available to students who need access to course materials, such as textbooks. Materials on the reserve shelf have various due dates based on faculty needs. Please be aware of those dates. You can check these items out at the Circulation Desk found by the Quad entrance.

How to find what is on reserve for a course:
There are two ways to find and use Course Reserves.

First: Use the course reserves link found on the navigation menu to the right of the library webpages. From there you will go directly to LibrarySearch with “Course Reserves” already selected in the search bar.

Second: You can start your search in course reserves using the LibrarySearch box on the library’s homepage.

Either way, choose Course Reserves from the drop down menu and enter the course name, number, instructor, or title.
